Ven. Drubthop Rinpoche chose Pharping—located 20 km from the busy city of Kathmandu—as the site for the center. Its peaceful environment allows students to concentrate fully on their studies. Pharping is also a sacred site, home to many important landmarks in Buddhism: the self-arisen images of Tara and Ganesh, the Asura Cave where Padmasambhava meditated, and one of the three Vajra Yoginis located around the Kathmandu Valley. The great yogi Phamding also meditated here, giving the town its ancient name, which later evolved into "Pharping." This spiritually rich place attracts pilgrims from around the world throughout the year.
After the devastating 2015 earthquake in Nepal, the center’s role became even more vital. Many students lost their homes—and in some cases, their parents. In response, the center welcomed more children who were orphaned, homeless, or in desperate need of support, offering them shelter, care, and the chance for a new beginning.
Initial stage
Initially, the center started with 12 students with a potential capacity of 30 students. As years passed by, the number of students also increased and at present, the center accommodates over 90 students. The administration bears all these expenditures by way of kind financial support and donation given by foreign individuals, groups and sponsorship money received for individual's students.
